I was really excited to buy this product especially with the great reviews and the fact that it won Allure’s Best of Beauty Award in 2010.

In Jamaica the summers are HOT and HUMID!…and sometimes borderline in flames type of heat. I tend to use Olay Complete All Day UV Moisturizer with SPF 15, but it just wasn’t cutting it over the past few months with all the heat. I hated the oil slicked, shiny face I was getting especially in my T-zone but mostly forehead. So I took the plunge and bought the Garnier gel-cream.

Soo here is what I think of it:

The official blurb from the Garnier's website is:

“Garnier Nutritioniste Moistrure Rescue Refreshing Oil-Free Gel-Cream helps replenish skin’s moisture reserves and fight off dryness. Its ultra lightweight, refreshing gel cream formula instantly penetrates for a long-lasting moisture and boosts skin’s natural defenses 24 hours”.

It has grape water extract and vitamin E which are powerful antioxidants.

PROs:

  1. It is lightweight
  2. Non-greasy yet moisturizing
  3. I loved the colour of the gel-cream and I loved the simple packaging.
CONs:
  1. I really dislike the smell. It doesn’t smell natural, it is sickeningly perfumed with I don’t even know what to describe it as. I’d probably have to say that it is a cross between a STRONG floral/bush smell and an artificial grape/apple scent. And I hated that smell so close to my nose.
  2. No SPF, so if you wanted sun protection you’d definitely have to apply sunscreen separately.

I am really up in the air about this product. On one hand I really love that it did what I wanted i.e. moisturizing without shininess but I just can’t stand the scent. And I suppose it’s because I don’t really like floral smells. I prefer fruity smells and if it’s floral it has to be mixed with a “naturally” sweet/semi-sweet fruit.

As a result, I’ve used this product about four (4) times.

I may attempt to use it again but I haven’t mustered the courage…yet lol.

Let me know if you’ve used this product and what I should do.
